Things to Do at Yangjaecheon in April: Art Salon, Garden Lounge & Hidden Cafés

Words by Jeong-Yoon Lee

April is the perfect time to visit Yangjaecheon Stream.

The fine dust level has dropped from ‘Very Bad’ to ‘Moderate,’ making it a great season to enjoy a walk without a mask. The warm temperatures, bright sunshine, and weekend crowds (with lots of adorable pets!) bring the stream to life. Bright yellow forsythias are already in full bloom along the stream, and soon, the cherry blossoms will follow.

This year, a new space called Salon de Garden has opened near the café street, beautifully decorated so you can enjoy light food and drinks outdoors. Whether it’s during the sunny day or under the lights at night, Yangjaecheon offers a different charm at every hour.

Plus, I’ll share my personal tip on how to discover hidden cafés around the area.

🌸 April Weather at Yangjaecheon

April brings mild and pleasant weather, with average highs of 18°C and lows of 7°C.

It’s best to bring a light jacket, a knit sweater for chilly evenings, and a scarf. Since spring rain can surprise you at any time, an umbrella is also recommended.

On sunny days, I suggest taking a long walk towards Gwacheon or the opposite Tancheon direction. Or, enjoy a picnic near the Yangjaecheon Riverside Stage by Yeongdong 1-gyo Bridge.

🎨 Yangjae Art Salon

The annual Yangjae Art Salon market will be held again this year:

Period: March 29 (Fri) – May 25 (Sun)

Location: From Yeongdong 1-gyo Bridge to the Riverside Stage

This art market features handcrafted goods and daily items made by local artists, small businesses, and young entrepreneurs.

During the last weekend of March and first weekend of April, it will be held as the Cherry Blossom Market, and for the rest of the period, as the Spring Market every weekend.

If you’re visiting during cherry blossom season, don’t miss this vibrant, creative event.

🌿 Salon de Garden

Salon de Garden was newly renovated during the fall and winter of 2024.

Last winter, it created a cozy atmosphere with its Christmas tree decorations, and now it’s beautifully prepared for the spring festival season.

Across from Salon de Garden, there are many charming cafés and restaurants with outdoor terraces — it’s a good idea to check out their menus in advance.

On sunny days, I recommend getting your drink to-go and enjoying it on a Salon de Garden bench while admiring the view of Yangjaecheon.

☕️ How to Find Hidden Cafés Around Yangjaecheon

Here’s my personal tip that worked well over the past year:

Search “cafés near me” on Naver Map → Click a café name that interests you → Check reviews and blog posts from real visitors.

This method helped me discover cafés that perfectly matched my taste.

Recently, I came across a lovely spot called Song Coffee X Book Space, a café combined with a cozy reading area. I’ve already saved it for my next visit.

🏞 Weekend Hike at Guryongsan

Another great activity on weekends is a short hike at Guryongsan Mountain.

The azaleas are blooming, and the trees are starting to show their fresh green leaves.

The hiking trail is not too long, so it’s perfect for a light workout before or after a good meal.

However, be prepared — you might sweat more than expected, so wearing light clothes and bringing a change of shirt is recommended.
